Do I have to learn a wrapper language?
No. The API takes ffmpeg options as they are — global, per input and per output.
-vf, -c:v and -crf mean here exactly what they
mean in your terminal.
Do I upload files or can I point at a URL?
Either. An input is a storage key from /api/files/upload/ or an external
http(s) URL, and the server detects which one it got — you do not declare it.
How do I get the result?
The POST confirms the job was queued and returns a job id. Processing runs async on a
separate worker; poll GET /api/ffmpeg/job/{job_id}/ until
status reaches a terminal value.
Can I inspect a file without processing it?
Yes — POST /api/ffprobe/job/ runs ffprobe and returns the container
format, duration and codecs, one entry per stream, without producing an output file.
How is usage measured?
In processing seconds — the CPU time your jobs actually spend, with a minimum of 25 seconds per GB pulled out of your storage to run them so that copy-only jobs still count. Uploading the outputs and downloading them afterwards are free. Your plan also caps how many inputs and outputs a single job can have, plus the combined size of all its inputs and the combined size of all its outputs. A job that fails still counts — the work was already done — unless it failed on our side, in which case it bills nothing.
Are the files I upload private?
Yes. A key is only readable by the account that owns it, and every download goes through a signed link that expires in 15 minutes — nothing is served from a guessable URL. The copy the worker downloads to run ffmpeg is deleted as soon as the job ends, whether it succeeded or failed. What you uploaded and what the job produced are removed from storage after 14 days. We never use your files for anything but the job you sent — our Privacy Policy has the rest.
